Let the Good Times Roll – Norman Jay MBE Returns to Worthing

Norman Jay MBE can be best described as an ambassador of Soul, a true purveyor of all things cool

The man is an oxymoron in that he is of the moment but has stood the test of time

A D.J set from Norman Jay MBE has one eye looking forwards with a finger on the pulse and one eye peering at the rear view mirror looking back to pure nostalgia

His effortless talent at blending an array of musical styles with aplomb makes him a DJ that not only makes people dance, he makes memories

Be lucky enough to hear Norman Jay in action and you could hear anything from SL2 ‘On a Ragga Tip’ to ‘California Soul’ by Marlena Shaw with KRS One’s ‘Sound of Da Police’ thrown in for good measure

This incendiary technique of combining several musical sounds in one set always provides an air of anticipation as you just never know what he is going to play next

Norman Jay MBE has been pushing the envelope of the UK music scene since the early 80’s, trailblazing early Disco and Rare Groove and as if this wasn’t enough to demand your respect, he has gone from breaking the law by transmitting his sounds through pirate radio to meeting her Majesty the Queen when he was honoured with an MBE; put simply the man is a legend

Shaping each DJ set is Norman Jay’s musical heritage; starting his musical voyage in the days when records from black artists were blocked from mainstream radio play, Norman Jay has witnessed music evolve through 6 decades

Rewind that musical lineage to 1979 and Norman Jay was lucky enough to be in the right place at the right time when he spun a set at a New York block party on a sound system owned by his uncle

That trip to New York gave Norman Jay an invaluable insight into the formation of Hip Hop; just one of the styles that he has carried with him ever since

This is just one of the factors that marks Norman Jay MBE out as a truly individual DJ that provides a unique experience to the revellers that flock to his sets year in year out at festivals, clubs and of course the legendary Good Times Sound System at Notting Hill Carnival

The last time that Norman Jay MBE graced the turntables at St. Paul’s the venue had an atmosphere that I can’t even do justice with words; you really do have to be there to experience it

So once again, on Friday 08th September – St Paul’s, Worthing is privileged to be added to the 2017 tour list that sees Norman Jay MBE travel to Bristol, London, Manchester, Northumberland and Newcastle to name but a few
