ABOUT THE COMPETITION: THE EVENT, PRIZE AND JUDGING:
The Worthing Portrait Artist of the Year will be an exciting evening of live portraiture.
12 local portrait artists are being offered the chance to create in public. Selected artists will each produce a portrait of one of 3 sitters over the course of an evening. The event will be open to the public. Sitters will be announced in due course.
This not-to-be-missed event will be open to all. Members of the public will be able toobserve the artists at work, and watch as portraits take shape before their eyes. The portraits will be judged by a panel, and a favourite selected. The sitters will also choose their favourite portrait, a copy of which will be made for them to take home.
All portraits will be exhibited at St. Paul’s for the ensuing month – 25th – 26th April 2019 during which time they will be subject to a Public Vote. The winner of this will be presented with the Bernard Lord Prize for Portraiture on the Friday 26th April, when the portraits will be
available to take home.
The competition will be open to anyone over the age of 18 living within a 20 mile radius of BN11, who must submit via email a portrait they have created in the last 3 years. The originals must be available for a pre-event exhibition, which will run from 1st March – 22nd March. Only 12 finalists will be chosen from these entrants.
To be announced. At least one/two judges will be independent of St Paul’s, Worthing. The judges’ decision is final and will be made at the event. Each sitter will also choose their favourite portrait, a copy of which will be made for them to take home. The names of the winning artist and runners up, and those chosen by the sitters, will be announced via social media and on www.stpaulsworthing.co.uk. The winner will also be required to do a demonstration at Seawhite’s, Brighton, on a date to be agreed.
