An Interview Concert audience ‘In the Round’ spells an unmatchable, innovative, up-close connective listening and social experience you never realised a concert could offer. This special event transports you to the street up which classical music waits to take you. Simply come and let it happen!
- The programme will explode into life with Bach and Busoni. It will intrigue you with Medtner the mysterious Russian, fascinate you with Beethoven and ravage you with Liszt.
- There is interaction. Interviewing includes questions from you the audience, and there’s a way you can discover something you hadn’t thought about the beloved ‘Moonlight’ Sonata.
So the Interview Concerts have arrived at St Paul’s. And with an international pianist already stepping up to a new career level following praise and recognition from world-leading peers.
Dinara Klinton, 26, already sent by Martha Argerich to play Chopin in his Polish homeland, is now one of Sir Andràs Schiff’s only three invited new young pianists to play in Germany, Zurich and New York in his 2017 Building Bridges series. The reason?
Her CD of 2016, on the GENUIN label, which Stephen Kovacevich found ‘marvellous’ and Schiff declared, “Dinara Klinton’s performance of Liszt’s Transcendental Études is astonishing. She is a real virtuoso, a born pianist, a very natural player.”
- The yardstick record review magazine Gramophone concluded: “This recording holds its own against all comers . . . a most musical account of this masterpiece”.
- BBC Music Magazine instantly made the CD its Instrumental Recording of the Month.
- Dinara’s CD will be on sale at this Interview Concert at the special price of £10.
- She is Ukrainian-born, but Dinara’s piano education and preparation since childhood is in direct Russian lineage from the celebrated Vladimir Horowitz.
- On her 2017 schedule, this Interview Concert in Worthing rubs shoulders with several Moscow and London engagements, and others such as Dresden and Weimar (Germany), Madrid, Cleveland (Ohio) and Elgin (Illinois), and two Chopin-linked events in Poland including at the composer’s birthplace.
So, do come – and be able to say you saw Dinara Klinton in her early years at St Paul’s!
We’ve got most types of drinks available, and cake.
This intimate event has its own specific seating. Early booking is advised, to avoid disappointment.
Bach-Busoni: Prelude & Fugue in D BWV 532
Medtner: Sonata Romantica
Beethoven: ‘Moonlight’ Sonata

A villainous maestro of the cabaret genre, Joe Black blurs the line between utterly sinister and completely delightful. Irreverent, comical and devilishly charming.

Award winning contemporary folk group, Tinderbox, are pleased to announce their first full Worthing show at St Paul’s on Friday 07 July, 2017.
Tinderbox were originally formed in 1997 by Dublin born singer-songwriter Monique Houraghan and guitarist/songwriter Dan Tucker. Since 2007, multi-instrumentalist and producer Bob Burke has completed the recognised trio line-up.
With six well-received albums to their name, Tinderbox have built up an impressive repertoire of self-penned songs which have received international recognition, exploring a myriad of poignant themes that range from watching children grow up, to the changing environment, and saying goodbye to loved ones to dancing in the rain!
Tinderbox’s live performances have been winning audiences over for the last twenty years with Houraghan’s emotive, personal delivery (often likened to Sandy Denny and Suzanne Vega) and the beautiful resultant countermelodies of interweaving guitars recalling the pastoral chamber-folk of Pentangle-era Jansch/Renbourne, Newton Faulkner, John Martyn and the Penguin Café Orchestra.
Their sixth album, 2017’s ‘All Grown Up’, with its extended sonic palette of piano, rhythm section, lead guitar (Frank Boyle), whistles (Catherine Burke), violin/viola and vocal arrangements (courtesy of Gareth Lee and Annie Bayliss), has received stunning reviews:
BBC 6 Music, Tom Robinson: ‘Gorgeous’
Maverick: ‘… a strong candidate for album of the year.’
R2, Dai Jeffries: ‘Outstanding… refreshingly natural’
Acoustic Magazine: ‘Lovely, hooky, mellow’
FolkWords: ‘A five-star album – no question… highly accomplished musicianship; with a deliciously pure voice and a lush embroidery of strings.’
With a long-established reputation amongst the folk, country, roots, and acoustic music scenes, you should experience Tinderbox live if you haven’t already! The concert at St Paul’s in Worthing is a perfect opportunity to catch the Tinderbox trio up-close and personal (and will be one of the few occasions where piano is used within the live set).

The long awaited follow up, ‘We Are Millionaires’, released July 10th on Broadcast Recording, sees the duo still circling around a lake of melancholy, but there are signs that the two have their eyes on the horizon where maybe, just maybe, there might be an escape to a happier world. Whist Pete Fij (“The best lyricist since Jarvis Cocker last put pen to paper” The Independent) continues to display his fine gallows-style humour, Terry Bickers continues to remind just why he was labelled a “rock god” alongside Johnny Marr or Bernard Butler by the likes of the NME some 30 years ago with his sublime guitar playing, as he delicately picks out textures and tones, adding beauty and depth.
Reviews for debut album ‘Broken Heart Surgery’
“A gently melancholic album that’s really rather lovely.” The Guardian

This August the Madchester era explodes onto the south coast and it’s ready to party. Featuring Happy Mondays icon Bez and the classic songs of Inspiral Carpets, the mighty St Paul’s, Worthing, hosts one of the events of summer 2017. For one night only, a fired up flavour of Mancunian clubland institutions such as The Haçienda is resurrected.
The 1980s turning into the 1990s was a golden moment. In the wake of two acid house-addled second summers of love, guitar bands loosened up to a stoned ‘Funky Drummer’ groove. Clad in bucket hats, fractal-décor hoodies and flared Joe Bloggs jeans, music exploded as the loved-up generation embraced ‘baggy’
Whether you were there in 1990 and want to TARDIS back to tie one on, or you weren’t even born and want to large it with Bez, it’s all going off on 11th August. Don’t miss it!

On Saturday 15th June 2002, Norman was officially cited in the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Birthday Honours List with the recommendation that he be appointed a Member of the Order of the British Empire, an MBE no less, awarded on merit for “deejaying and services to music”. On Tuesday 12th November 2002, Norman was officially invited to attend a royal investiture at Buckingham Palace, London where he was duly invested and presented with the highly coveted MBE medal by Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II herself. It is indeed the highest civilian honour yet conferred on anyone from the relatively new field of post modern UK club culture and black music – a fitting tribute in recognition of his many outstanding musical achievements and invaluable contributions to the world of popular dance music in a career spanning well over two decades.
